Decided to take wife and mum to see the well publicised Comic Relief lighting up of the Forth Railway Bridge. What a disappointment! We arrived at 7pm (ie it WAS dark), and looking over the Forth from South Queensferry we expected to see a dazzling light display over the Bridge. But to no avail. Instead we were “treated” to a casual red glow basking the lower half of the Bridge and not much else. Never mind though – at least the locals got some extra trade in what is a beautiful little town on the banks of the Forth.
After walking along the length of the towns’ main shopping street we decided that due to the biting weather we needed a coffee to warm our bones. So venturing into one of the trendy bistro-come-bars the 3 of us duly sat down on a comfy setee in front of the log fire and before long the waiter came to take our order. My wife having not quite decided whether to have the Banoffi Pie or the Fudge Cake suggested we take a minute to decide and he would come back for the order. Big mistake! 10 minutes later we were still waiting. After a further 10 minutes it was time to give up and go somewhere else. Having decided that it was too cold to start walking again we duly headed out to the car and onto the M8 towards home. Still it was good to get out and shake the cobwebs off. Let’s hope that next time the service is better.
