    Really enjoyed the photos.
    I am interested in Airdrie around 1935 – 44
My Grandfather was living there at that time.
Is there a site that would have such pictures?

  2. webmaster Says:

Thanks for the comments. You could try this Central Webs

  3. John Weir Says:

Hi, I have been coming back to this site for years now, and while the site itself has improved vastly over the years the images have changed little…. let’s not forget the power of the internet to provide visual content.. how about some recent images, Whinhall, St. Andrews, Park St., Hyslop St., “The Glen”, Burnfoot, Glenmavis, etc. etc….

    Thanks….

  4. webmaster Says:

Fair point. Now that the good weather has finally arrived, maybe I’ll manage to expand this selection. Thanks for the feedback.

  5. jerome Says:

i actually find the pictures quite fascinating but for all the wrong reasons.
it could only be some low-life drunken fool who would take pictures of airdrie as airdrie is indeed best described as a ‘s****-h***’ as the locals call it please at leat take some decent pics in the future thank you

  6. webmaster Says:

The fact that you searched (or stumbled on this site) says it all! Let’s hope where you live is at least equal to the comments – but there again – no-one can dictate where they were brought up or how they end up.

Perhaps some constructive criticism would help???

  7. Wally Says:

Having been born in Airdrie, Scotland in 1945, at the Maternity Hospital,
and living in Rawyards, when the old Toll House was still there, I lived
in one of the suites, incidentally. We, as a family, left Scotland in 1957,
the last of the old Immigration Scheme, to come to Canada.
I have fond memories of Airdrie, as a child, and especially the old sand
stone houses, The Toll House was made of sandstone, with very thick
walls. The pictures of the old areas, such as Sterling Street, bring back
those fond memories, then, things were a bit different, no computors etc.. I remember sitting with my brother at the curb of Black St, and couting the cars going by, there were that few in those days.
My heart will always be in Airdrie ( we have an Airdrie in Alberta by the
    way)
    Wally (Vadik)

  9. Jim Mackrell Says:

I have asked in the past for more and bigger photos of Airdrie . The webmaster indicated that this was reasonable. Is there any chance of this happening in the near future? Thanks.

  10. webmaster Says:

Thanks for the request. I would also be grateful for photos from visitors and members too. Hopefully we should have more photos soon.

  11. jo Says:

i as wondering if thre were any pictures of airdrie academy when it was still all in tact

  12. Rita Campbell Says:

Unless the name has been changed since I left Airdrie over thirty years ago the church is actually West Parish Church and not Wellwynd which was further up the road on the other side.

  13. webmaster Says:

Rita – Thanks for pointing this out.

  14. June Rafferty neeWatterson Says:

It would be nice to see a picture of Airdrie High school .I know it was demolished many years ago ,but it would still be nice to as i went to Chapleside and then Airdrie High

  15. Stephanie Grant Says:

7 years ago, I got married in Airdrie. My husband was born and brought up there until he left at 16 to join the Royal Navy. Shortly after, being pregnant and with a husband often away, I decided to come back to my home town of Montreal, Canada. I enjoyed looking at the photos and will visit this site often in the future. I’m looking forward to going back with our daughter to visit the family. This has make me feel a wee bit closer to them. A nice photo of the town’s register office would be appreciated!

  16. Roberta Quirk Says:

I was shocked to discover that the Academy is being replaced in October 06. Would it be possible for all these former pupils who cannot get to the reunion to have a photo of “our” academy and also of the new one. Thank you

  17. Jim Mackrell Says:

I check the site every so often to see if there are more and bigger photos. No luck. If I can provide photos, will you post them? If you will, I have some and can enlist family members still living in Airdrie to send some to me. Thanks.

  18. webmaster Says:

    Hi Jim
Thanks for the kind offer. Absolutely!! Just send details through by using the contact form or e-mail and I will get back to you to include the photos in the Photo Gallery. Thanks again.

  19. margaret craig Says:

I attended Airdrie Academy from 1958 to 1961. I did nor know they were building a new school. What REUNION are you talking about? I never heard of any. I would also be very interested if anyone could post a photo of our OLD SCHOOL. I loved attending AIRDRIE ACADEMY AND ALEXANDRA PRIMARY SCHOOL…(I believe Alexandra is no longer a school either. Anyone have a photo of that school as well?

  20. Annalise Laird Says:

I go to Airdrie Acadamy, The new school is terrible, the old school was better.

  21. john Says:
