Posted by webmaster on April 2 2006

Just added a new name to the list for Nancy Peppers who is well known in Nashville for her music. Check it out under the Famous Airdrie Folk page.

My mum remembers Wee Hary Roy. She quotes a phrase “He hurls a bara for Joey Lamarra. Who is he Joe Isy? – Naw wee Harry Roy.”
Apparently Joe Isy’s famous saying was “A scoutered the peas a’ ower the coonter”

Jim Traynor from the Record lived on Kipps Ave, next door to the Burns’s.I lived over the back on McKenna Drive before moving to Canada in 87.I well remember Dunky Donaldson, he was a janitor at St Margarets when I went there. Was a legend in street fighting circles when he was younger. So called hard men would make the trek out to Airdrie to take oor Dunky on but always left on the wrong side of a good tannin.
Dunky gave up the drink and fighting and became VERY vocal on the religous side, hosting sing songs on a Saturday afternoon in Airdrie across from the staging post and at the old Rialto bingo hall.
I was a doorman at the Staging Post and Dunky would always have a laugh with us, he would be on the mike telling anyone who would listen that in his younger dafter days he would have been over giving me a go.From what I have heard I’m glad he saw the light as he would have kicked my arse with ease.Sorry to see he had passed away as he was a very nice man, after he found his Lord, R.I.P Dunky, LEGEND
