my grandfather lost an arm in a mining accident at Avonhead colliery. he sued the colliery director, and won his case .The case was heard on the 3rd November 1928 and concluded on the 21st February 1929, would like to know how grandad lost an arm,and more about the places he lived.Nimmos Row ,Longriggend,and Mossvale Place Longriggend.

Hello. I chanced upon your post and had a look for you in the Scotsman online archives. There are 2 articles 3rd Nov 1928 and 21st Feb 1929 which discuss the case brought by William James Boyle against Robert T Walker director of Avonhead Colliery. I think you’ll find them of interest as this is clearly your ancestor and the case you refer to, but he did not sue because he lost his arm. He sued for slander and loss of earnings after the director objected to his appointment as checkweigher in no uncertain terms!
