There are many areas in and around Airdrie of local interest. In fact the countryside is one of the main attractions of the area due to the proximity of large cities such as Glasgow and Edinburgh. A useful place to look to is the Airdrie library which offers a comprehensive range of services to the visitor. It is an ideal starting point for gaining more information about the town.
In nearby Coatbridge, the Time Capsule is popular and Summerlee Heritage Railway Museum is an informative tourist attraction.
The Penny Project was set up to create and manage a Countryside Park, Northburn Community Park, on a local greenbelt site, between Airdrie & Coatbridge, known as "The Moss". This project has attracted such visitors as HRH Princess Anne and is an ongoing project.
